Upcycled: old greeting cards to pretty bookmarks

Hello, and welcome! Today I'm sharing here a great idea: converting old greeting cards into lovely bookmarks.

I forgot to take a picture of the original greeting cards, but basically I cut long rectangles out of them, trying to make the most use of the printed images/patterns.

I laminated the bookmarks (for higher durability) and added metal eyelets at the top (this is optional, you can just punch a small hole instead).

And the final touch was to add a tassel.

These tassels were made with embroidery floss. You can check the tutorial I posted here last week, or go directly to the how-to video:

Overall I took me less than ten minutes to make these bookmarks and I will for sure make more. I'm even thinking they will be great to add to holidays gifts as a little extra, so for the next batch I'll dig up a few Christmas cards I know I have stashed somewhere, and try to use those too.

  2. Great idea! I keep all of the cards my hubby & kiddos give me. I feel like it's just taking up space, so this is a perfect way to put them to use! I am going to try to cut a section with their signature so I have the picture on the front, but the most important part, their handwriting & what they said on the front.
