Hello, and welcome! Keeping up with my frugal goal for 2026 (read about it here), today I'm sharing here how I upcycled a package (leftover from a Christmas gift) into a new gift package ready to be used:
The original package came with a dollhouse kit my daughter got on Christmas (a very cute kit by the way, perfect for teens and adults, so I'm adding a link at the end of this post if you want to check it out).
I was going to put the cardboard box in the recycling bin but then I looked at it a second time a realized it was perfect to reuse. I just needed to cover the brand name and little else.
So I looked around my stash and found some scrapbook paper with metallic inserts that perfectly matched the color of the box.
I had to use more than one patterned paper as I didn't have enough to cover the whole box with just one of the patterns, and in the end I just focused on covering the bottom of the box (lots of info on the original content there), the sides (just over the brand name) and the top (again, just covering the brand name in the center).
So, a couple of sheets of patterned paper and a bit of glue later I had a "brand new" box to package another gift in:
Lesson learned: always think twice before throwing this kind of packages away. Your wallet (and the planet) will thank you.
