Faux leather tablet cover refashion

Hello, and welcome! Today I'm sharing here a very quick and easy project: a refashioned Ipad cover.

But first, a bit of the back story:

One of the things I dislike the most is waste. So when Apple told me my Ipad was already considered vintage and therefore they were no longer selling new covers for it, and then went on suggesting it was time to replace it with a new one anyway, I was really angry.

Back then, I got a second hand cover from a friend to replace the one that was broken, but lately that second cover was looking a little (or a lot) worse for wear too.

So...the question came back around. Buy a new Ipad just because the cover of the existing one isn't looking great anymore or find a way to somehow fix the cover?

But, really, why would I replace a perfectly working device (that I mostly just use to check emails and read e-books), and create more electronic waste the world definitely doesn't need, when the only issue was really the cover?

So, of course I had to think of a way to keep the existing cover while still trying to make it look a bit better. The solution? Faux leather.

Years ago I bought two rolls of faux leather, one pink and one blue. Over time I used them for various things, but I still had enough of the blue one to easily re-cover the Ipad cover.

Faux leather is sufficiently flexible that even when glued over the existing cover still allows for it to bend and fold as it did originally.

And yes, the only thing I did was to glue the original Ipad cover over the faux leather sheet, and then use small, pointed scissors and an exacto knife to cut all around.

Here's the final result, front and back (I reinforced the back with two additional strips of faux leather on the sides):

And that was it! I've been using it for several weeks now and it's still holding just fine, so I hope this "new" Ipad cover will last for a long time still.

And if you're wondering, I used regular crafts glue for this. My favorite glue is linked below. It's a great fabric glue that you can use in all kinds of fabrics, but works great on all sorts of materials, even wood and metal.

And since this project was completed using exclusively supplies I already had at home, it's another step forward towards my 2024 destashing goal. I've been trying really hard not to buy more supplies this year, and instead work with whatever currently clutters my crafts closet.

Have fun, and happy Tuesday!
