Crochet cat face scrubbies - tutorial and pattern

Hello, and welcome! Today I'm sharing one of the projects I had the most fun with lately: cat face scrubbies.

They are very easy to make, and will definitely make you smile - both when you're making them and when you're using them.

Here's the tutorial:

1st row: chain two over a magic ring. Then add 11 double crochets (to get 12 stitches in total). Join with a slip stitch. Pull the loose end of the yarn to close the magic ring.

2nd row: chain two, and then add two double crochets over each stitch from the first row. Slip stitch to join (24 stitches in total).

3rd row: chain two, add one double crochet in the next stitch, two double crochets in the following one. Repeat this pattern (two double crochets in each of two stitches of the previous row and then two double crochets in the same stitch) until the end. Slip stitch to join (36 stitches in total).

First ear: make it using the following sequence - one single crochet, one half double crochet in the following stitch. Then in the next stitch add two double crochets, chain two and two more double crochets (all the in same stitch from the previous row). And finally make one half double crochet and one single crochet in the next two stitches (so the ear is symmetrical).

Second ear: leave a distance of two stitches from the other year and repeat the same sequence. Here you have two choices - you can either add two slip stitches to fill in the space between the ears and bring the yarn from the end of the first ear to the second; or you can cut the yarn and restart the second ear with a new piece of yarn (no added stitches in between the years). This last option is my favourite - even though you have a few more loose ends to weave in, I think the ears stand out more.

You can see that the two sets of scrubbies I made so far are slightly different in size only because I used different yarns (leftovers from other projects). The pink yarn was slightly thicker, so the scrubbies came out a bit bigger.

I love these so much I will certainly make more in the future. Once you get used to the pattern, you'll be making these scrubbies in next to nothing. And they are obviously great handmade gifts too.

    1. I used leftovers so I can't remember the brand, but it's 100% cotton.

    1. Hi, thank you for stopping by. I used a 2.0 mm hook for these, but you should adjust to the yarn you are using.

    1. You should have 36 stitches. I have updated the text to include this.
