Hello, and welcome! Today I'm sharing here the pattern & tutorial for a quick - but very cute - Valentine's Day idea: a crochet envelope that you can use to place a card or even a small gift.
It's very easy to make, and once you add the little crochet heart, it's just perfect for Valentine's.
For the envelope I used a white cotton yarn and a 2.5 mm hook, but you can adjust the yarn and the hook to what you have on hand, the only difference will be the finished size of the envelope. The one I'm showing you below ended up with approximately 14 x 14 cm.
The small crochet heart was made using slightly thicker pink cotton yarn and a 3.5 mm hook. The tutorial for the heart can be found here.
Row 1: chain 47 and then add 45 half double crochets over each of the chains (starting on the 3rd chain from hook). Adjust the number of chains for smaller or a larger size.
Row 2: chain 2. Add one half double crochet over each stitch from the previous row (45 stitches in total).
Continue adding rows until you have a square. Cut the yarn and weave in ends.
Fold 3 of the corners of the square inwards, as shown below:
Sew the corners together (two diagonal seams):
Now your envelope is complete. You can obviously leave it as is, but it's so much better to add a little heart:
The heart was made using my small crochet hearts tutorial, which you can find in this post. There's also a video tutorial too:
Once you have your heart done, you just need to attach it to the tip of the envelope flap (you can sew or glue it in place, whatever you prefer):
Since the heart was made using a slightly heavier yarn, the envelope remains closed easily. but if you want you can add an hidden button or a bit of velcro beneath the heart.
Now place your card or letter inside and you're ready for Valentine's day!
Have fun, and happy Tuesday,
