Hello, and welcome! If you're been visiting a while, you already know I love to sew zipper pouches in all shapes and sizes - so today I'm going to show you how to easily sew an unlined flat zipper pouch that you can finish in 15 minutes or less.
Start with two rectangles of felt (same size) and a zipper (same width or larger than the longest side of the rectangles. You can replace the faux leather with felt, it works just was well (fabric can be used too, but since the pouch is unlined, felt or faux leather are better).
I used a sheet of glittery faux leather from a pack I bought on Amazon. It was actually very easy to cut and sew, better than my previous experiences with faux leather...
On the back of one of the rectangles, mark the zipper opening with the help of a ruler. Make sure you leave a nice margin on the sides and that the height is less than the height of your zipper (you need to be able to sew the zipper securely on all sides).
Cut the opening and place the zipper as shown below. Sew all around, close to the edge.
If you're working with felt, you can perfectly use pins to hold the zipper in place while sewing. But with faux leather pins are harder to use and then leave marks when you remove them, so I like to secure the zipper with adhesive tape in the back (and remove the tape only after sewing the four sides).
Now place the rectangles one on top of the other, right sides together, and sew all around. You don't need to leave an opening to turn inside out, but you do need to make sure the zipper is open before sewing - because you'll be turning the pouch inside out exactly through the zipper opening.
And that's it. Once you turn it inside out and close the zipper, this is what you have (front and back):
Happy Tuesday!
