These textured crochet face scrubbies are a great, eco-friendly gift idea and I think the waffle stitch gives them an extra flair!
The pattern is easy and beginner friendly. Below you have the written instructions, but I've also created a video tutorial to make it even easier to follow the pattern.
To create these scrubbies I used cotton yarn and a 4 mm hook. Each scrubbie has an approximate size of 9 x 9 cm (3.5 x 3.5 inches).
Please note that the waffle stitch tends to shrink a bit or become too tight when you start adding rows. To avoid this, use a slightly larger crochet hook (this yarn states it's for a 3.5 mm hook and I used a 4 mm) and don't pull the yarn too much.
Here's the pattern:
Row 1: chain 17. Starting on the third chain from hook, add one double crochet over each chain until the end of the row (15 stitches in total).
Row 2: Turn around, chain 2 (counts as a stitch) and then alternate one front post double crochet with two double crochets until the end of the row. End the row with a regular double crochet (15 stitches in total).
Row 3: Turn around, chain 2 (counts as a stitch) and then alternate one regular double crochet with two front post double crochets until the end of the row. End the row with a regular double crochet (15 stitches in total).
Row 4: Repeat row 2
Row 5: Same as row 3
Row 6: Same as row 4
Row 7: Same as row 3
Row 8: Same as row 4
Row 9 (optional): add one slip stitch over each of the stitches from the previous row (the idea is to make the scrubbie a bit more symmetrical, since you started with a chain).
Cut the yarn, weave in ends and your scrubbie is finished.
Repeat as many times as you want to create a wonderful waffle stitch reusable face scrubbies set!

Have fun, and happy crocheting!
