Spooky Scavenger Hunt Ideas for Halloween - with free printables

Halloween is an exciting time for kids and adults alike. People dress up in silly and scary costumes, get together with their friends, and have a blast. The only thing that could make this holiday better is if you added a scavenger hunt to the mix.

Spooky Scavenger Hunt Ideas for Halloween - with free printables

To help you celebrate this spooky season, we’ve put together our favorite Halloween scavenger hunt ideas below.

Setting Up Your Scavenger Hunt

A scavenger hunt is a lot like hide and seek, but with multiple seekers. Instead of searching for other people, however, the seekers are searching for specific items around the house or outside. The person who finds the most items relevant to the scavenger hunt is the winner.

All you need for a successful scavenger hunt is a group of people ready to play, some unique, Halloween items to hide, and some prizes to give to the winners at the end. To get you started, below we’ve provided a Halloween scavenger hunt checklist to print out and hand to your players.

Scavenger Hunt Clues

Clues are the first element that makes for a lively hunt. Depending on whether you’re catering to kids or adults, you can write clues that are either easier or harder to understand. For example, for a casual hunt, you may want to hide clues that simply say, “look under here.” If you want to make things a little harder, you could write down a riddle that points your players in the right direction.

Below are some printable clue cards. Fill in the blanks with clues of your choice to go with your scavenger hunt.

Prize Ideas

To add some more thrill to your scavenger hunt, prizes are a must.  For kids, you can offer glow-in-the-dark stickers, glow sticks, Halloween candy, board games, or Halloween-themed stuffed animals.

For adults, consider prizes like beer or wine, Halloween-themed bath bombs, gift certificates, or concert tickets. For other options, fill in the blanks of our winner’s coupons below.

Scavenger hunts are an exciting addition to any Halloween celebration. Just be sure to add some extra fun by planning ahead and preparing clues and prizes to make your hunt more entertaining. Just don’t let your players get too competitive. Remember, the goal of a scavenger hunt is to have fun!
