Summer crafts for kids: felt envelope pouches

If you've been visiting a while, you already know I love working with felt. So now I came up with a way for kids (in this case, my daughter) to make some pouches by themselves.

Summer crafts for kids: felt envelope pouches

And if you're thinking you're not comfortable letting your kids use needles - don't worry, these pouches can be done in a strictly no-sew version using fabric glue.

The one that my daughter made specifically for this post is styled as a watermelon, but any other theme/colors work fine too.

All you need is a piece of felt that can be folded to create an envelope. If you want, you can follow the instructions for the envelope pouch with snaps on this post (minus the snaps), just let the kids glue the sides instead of sewing.

This pouch was entirely made with the pink felt, with the green felt glued on top afterwards.

The watermelon seeds in this case were painted into the felt with a felt tip pen and the button can either be sewn or glued in place (although if you use glue make sure you're gluing only the very center of the button).

You need scissors to cut a slit for the button to pull through. Be sure to take over this step if you're not comfortable with the kids handling the scissors alone.

And now let the imagination run free and you'll be surprised with the amazing things your kids come up with.

Have fun, and enjoy your weekend,
