Hello, and welcome! Today's Tuesday Tips are all about scheduling sales and coupons on Etsy.
Scheduling a sale or creating a coupon is actually very easy. On your Shop Manager menu, if you go to Marketing, there's a link to a sales & coupons page, and there you can choose whatever you want.
My shop is now on vacation, but in the past I have in the past created coupons for abandoned carts, thank you coupons with a discount for the next purchase, etc. To be honest, my success has been limited. From my research I understand only people who opted in to receive e-mails from Etsy will be notified I have created a coupon. And as sending unsolicited e-mails is a no-no, I'm still not convinced this system is very effective unless you're sending out a thank you coupon code with an order or you post online about a certain discount.
I have also scheduled sales in the past, mostly seasonal related. Again, impact on revenues has been limited, so I'm way more careful today when deciding wether or not to have a sale. The main advice I have is: don't follow the crowd. If everyone is having a sale at the same time, you're exactly in the same spot vs. your competition as always and you're selling your items cheaper. Starting your sale a few days before everyone else, for example, may give you some competitive advantage (Etsy will even suggest you certain dates for special sale events - you can be sure almost everyone will be starting a sale on that day - so aim to be different).
Also, like most other things (Etsy related or not), you will learn by trial and error about what works best for you and your shop. So at the end of a sale or after deactivating a coupon, look back on the results to see what work and what didn't - that's the only way you will improve consistently over time.
And these are my tips for today. I'm by no means a specialist, so don't forget to check the other Tuesday Tips posts from this fantastic group!
