Hello, and welcome to a brand new week! Yes, today I'm showing off another of my notebook sets, but this time there are some differences - first, it's not animal themed. After the dog notebook set and the fox notebook set, I was ready for a change. This happy clouds fabric provided the perfect inspiration. And second, this notebook set is not made of felt.
Although felt is my go-to material when I have to make a quick gift for someone, we all need to take a break sometimes...
I didn't create a photo tutorial for this set because - yes, you guessed! - I was pressed for time. But it's not really difficult, I promise.
For the pencil case you can follow my DIY simple zippered pouch tutorial and just adjust the measurements when you cut the fabric.
For the notebook cover you need to cut two rectangles of fabric - one for the exterior and one for the lining (I used as lining the same fabric I used to line the pencil case). The rectangles should be big enough to wrap around your notebook, with room for the folding flaps and the seam allowances - you will have one seam all around (on the four sides) and one additional seam on the top and bottom of the notebook cover (the longer sides).
First, you need to place both fabric pieces right sides together and sew all around, leaving just a small opening. Turn inside out, sew the opening shut and iron if necessary to make sure all seams are in place.
Once this first step is completed, you can then use my 5 minute book cover tutorial to sew the rest of the notebook cover - even if you're not working with felt, as you no longer haver fraying edges on your fabric, it will work in the same way.
Then add the elastic and the button, and you're done!
Here is the complete set:
This was a gift for the daughter of friends of ours, who turned eleven at the end of last month (yes, I'm just late posting it). And yes, there are more notebook sets coming too, so stay tuned.

Happy Monday!
What a sweet fabric choice!

Thank you! When I found it at the craft store i just had to buy it. I still have some left over, let's see if I can find other fun projects to use it.
DeleteThis is a lovely gift, the fabric s so cute. Great tip for adapting a felt notebook cover pattern too, thanks.
