Quilted Reversible Tablecloth from a Moda Fabrics Jelly Roll

Hello, and welcome! While I love the concept of quilting, I almost never quilt myself. Quilting takes time, patience and precision, and I rarely have even one of those things, much less the three of them at the same time.

However, a couple of years ago (yes, it took me that long...) I bought a Jelly Roll from Moda Fabrics, already with the intention of quilting something one day...which in the end turned out to be a small tablecloth for the table we use on our kitchen balcony during the summer months (and whenever weather permits, actually).

I didn't create an "official" tutorial, but you can read about how I made it below.

My jelly roll was called Pocketful of Posies and I don't think it's available anymore, at least not on Amazon. I did love the fabric (and the concept, since this was my first time actually sewing from a jelly roll), so next I'm thinking of giving this one a try, and it's going to look awesome for autumn projects:

As to my table cover, since I wanted to keep it as easy as possible, I just joined the stripes together, 17 for each side - so the back of the tablecloth is made in exactly the same way as the front (although with the fabrics in different order), which makes it reversible.

Then I joined both sides, with a layer of thin batting ironed on the back side of each of the sides of the tablecloth. Initially I had intended to machine quilt the whole thing parallel to the seams, but then decided against it and added perpendicular lines instead. I totally winged it, too, and I'm honestly really proud I managed to sew fairly straight lines (at least if you don't look too closely...).

I used four additional stripes of fabric from the Jelly Roll to create the borders (I ironed them bias tape-like first). The first half of the "bias-tape" was machine sewn but then I finished by hand (like I almost always do when using bias tape):

Here's a detail of the quilting and the mitered corners (which I also find much easier to sew by hand):

And here's the finished table cloth:

I made it to fit the balcony table, so it's a bit small to use on the kitchen table, but I'm loving it so much I may leave it there during the rainy season too...
