The Totally Scrappy Dishcloth - with free pattern

If you follow me on Instagram you've probably seen snippets of this, but I'm sharing it here today in more detail.

And I'm also including the crochet pattern in case you want to make one of these crochet dishcloths too, scrappy or not.

I basically went through my bags of and took out all the little bits of cotton yarn that were already too small for any other kind of project. Then I joined all the bits randomly, rolled them up in a rainbow ball of yarn, and used that yarn to create my scrappy dishcloth.

I used a 3.5 mm crochet hook and my dishcloth is approximately 25 x 25 cm.

Here's the pattern (US crochet terms):

Row1: Chain 38. Starting on the 3rd chain from hook, add one half double crochet over each chain (35 stitches in total)

Row 2: Turn around, chain two and then add one half double crochet over each stitch from previous row.

Repeat row 2 as many times as you need to get a square shape (or, if you're using scraps, as many times as your scraps allow).

Cut the yarn, weave in ends and you're good to go.

I know there are better ways to do it, but I was pressed for time (and these were scraps anyway), so I just tied the ends of the bits of yarn together with a knot.

So I managed to whip this up in almost no time (which is great, otherwise it would have probably ended in the unfinished projects pile to finish who knows when) and I'm already using it in the kitchen.

I love the look of the half double crochet for this kind of projects, and one of these days I'll probably make a set of dishcloths with "proper" yarn, but for now I'll just use my scraps.

If you're not all that familiar with the half double crochet, you can find my tutorial in the video below:

Happy Tuesday!
