Having the kids at home during the summer with us parents still at work (even if working from home) is always a challenge, so I've been trying to discover new things to keep my ten year old occupied. We discovered a previously unused cross stitch kit at the back of a closet and she's been working on those designs, but then we had to find something to use the cross stitch in. And I came up with the idea of having her creating her own summer notebook.
This way she's was not only occupied building the notebook but she also now has a place to record her summer memories, the books she's reading, summer bucket lists, etc. Of course this doesn't work for toddlers, but it's a good suggestion for older children to pass these summer days especially if they're still, like us, limited in their outings due to Covid.
For this project we used a series of blank writing paper (leftover from the school year), a bit of wool (to bind the pages together) and some paper to create the front and back covers. If you want to skip this step you can get a pre-made notebook and have your kids work on just embellishing the cover.
Then of course my daughter had the brilliant idea to go through my box of ribbons and using one to embellish the notebook a bit more.
And then she glued her cross stitch masterpiece over the front cover:
But really, kids can add whatever they want to the cover - drawings, stickers, paint, fabric, the possibilities are virtually endless, so just let them be creative!
That cover is sweet!
