Female empowerment is all about uplifting the experiences, voices, and journeys of women of all ages. It’s important to show support for the women in our lives and know how we can show up and show out for them in any way we can.
Read on to learn more about day-to-day efforts you can make to support women’s empowerment.
Celebrate Natural Leaders
One of the best ways to encourage self-confidence in women and young girls is to recognize and celebrate their leadership skills. Create a more inspiring work environment by celebrating these qualities, including:
- Time management
- Organization
- Empathy
- Work ethic
- Strategic abilities
- Creativity
Another way to encourage aspiring leaders, especially younger girls, is to seek insight from successful women in their life. Redbubble has created this worksheet of leadership abilities that young girls can use to spark conversation with elders and use their life experiences to inspire their own.
Practice Active Listening
The best thing you can do when a woman is expressing a concern or making conversation is to actively listen to what they are saying. Active listening makes it easy to make whoever is speaking feel validated and truly understood.
This skill is important and is something that everyone should teach their children from a young age. Everyone’s voice should be respected, and it can truly make a difference in their lived experiences to have somebody there to support and listen to them.
Disagree Respectfully
Many people tend to personally disparage women when they disagree with them. While disagreements can be exasperating, it’s important to avoid harsh, vicious language such as “stupid” or simply declaring that the other person is wrong.
Understand how to hear the other person out without belittling them, and try to find a productive common ground to work out the differences. The blurred lines between differing opinions and personal attacks can make this difficult, but there are always alternative ways to rephrase your argument to avoid unreasonably dismissing the person you’re talking to.
Understand the Power of a Compliment
Society subjects women to a lot of negative experiences and criticism in day-to-day life. Throughout their lives, starting from when they’re young girls, positive reinforcement and affirmation can make a huge difference in avoiding that negativity. A good, genuine compliment is great for self-worth and developing confidence throughout life.
Many automatically jump to comment on someone’s appearance when they think of a compliment, but a person is far more than just their appearance. Uplift the positive qualities of their character, and celebrate their accomplishments. This type of affirmation is a great way to drown out negativity and reinforce a positive self-image.
No matter what stage of life the women in your life are in, every attempt to uplift and support them can make all the difference. Applaud their vulnerability and cheer on their strength, and always encourage them to make their voices heard wherever they can.
Happy Tuesday!
