Last weekend, while trying to find inspiration for a quick little gift for a friend, I re-discovered a set of wooden beads I've had for years and never used - waiting for just the right project, apparently. And so I came up with these keychains:
They are so quick and easy to make I ended up with four instead of just one (the one made with the smaller square beads you'll see below was already wrapped when I realised I hadn't taken a photo..).
What you need to make these keychains?
- a keyring
- beads (size is up to you, but they work better if they're a bit on the larger side). I like the look of the wooden beads in contrasting tones, but any kind of beads would work, really.
- cotton yarn (I used leftovers from other projects)
Instructions:
First, cut a piece of yarn and secure it to the keyring, as show below:
Then insert the beads. Usually these larger beads have holes wide enough for a needle to pull through, so that's what I used.
Now, roll a length of yarn around your hand several times (the number of times will depend on how full and fluffy you want your tassel to be).
Tie the rolled yard just below the beads (using the two edges of the yarn that pass through the beads).
Roll a piece of yarn around the top of the tassel. Tie and secure the edge in a way that's as invisible as possible (I used a needle to to this).
And finally, the last step is to cut the bottom of the tassel to actually create a fringe:
And that's it!
All in all, it takes about five minutes or less to make one of these once you get the hang of it.
Have fun, and happy Monday!
Cute! I want to make one to add some fun to my keys!
