Let's make a (cute) key chain

Hello, and welcome!

Today I'm sharing with you a quick tutorial to make cute keychains. As my kids grow older, so do their friends, and I need to be creative in discovering new age appropriate gifts for all of them.

Scroll below to find out how to make these cute keychains.

Materials needed:
  • 20 - 21 cm of cotton webbing (the kind you use to make bag handles for example). You can also use polyerster webbing - it's probably a bit sturdier, but I personally like the softer cotton version.
  • 20 - 21 cm of a cute ribbon of your choice (same width or slightly smaller than the webbing)
  • Heat & Bond (or a similar iron-on adhesive) - a piece in the same size as the ribbon you're using
  • A tassel (optional)

Instructions:

Use the Heat & Bond according to the instructions, to adhere the ribbon to the cotton meshing.

Fold in half and secure the edges with the hardware (if you need to use a pair of pliers to close the hardware, make sure you place a piece of cloth covering the hardware first, to avoid scratching the metal).

I made the one above for my son, so I skipped adding a tassel, but if you're making it for a girl, a tassel adds some flair too:

These keychains are a great choice of gift for pre-teens, teens - and adults too. They can be used to hold your keys (obviously) but are great as luggage tags or purse charms - and the kids love to hang them on their backpacks.

There are several similar keychains available in my Etsy shop too, if you want to check them out.

Happy Tuesday!
