Hello and welcome to another installment of the DIY play food series. It's been a while since I posted a play food tutorial, but today I'm showing you how to make felt pancakes, complete with several sauce alternatives so that everyone can choose a favorite.
Here's the tutorial:
Here's the tutorial:
What you need:
- the pattern - download here
- light brown or beige felt for the pancakes
- yellow, brown or red (or all of them) for the sauce
- bits of polyester filling
- Matching sewing thread
Instructions:
- download and print the pattern. I sized the pattern for the pancakes to fit into the dishes my daughter has in her play kitchen. Enlarge or reduce the pattern if you want a different size.
- trace the pattern onto the felt and cut the pieces according to the instructions in the pattern. I made a set of five pancakes, so I had to cut ten circles.
- join the pieces of felt in pairs. sewing around the edges. Insert a bit of polyester filling in between the two layers before finishing sewing the circles - just a bit, because you want the 3-D effect but no over stuffing.
- cut the sauce in any color you want - yellow for butter, brown for chocolate, read for strawberry, etc.
And you're done. Now go have fun with your stack of pancakes.
