I've never been a huge fan of Halloween and anything remotely creepy is definitely not my style. So all of my Halloween crafts are always more cute than actually scary. Last year I made a ghost hand puppet for my son's class and this year I made a black cat.
It's a simple cat sewn out of black felt but it turns out to be a nice Halloween decor piece if creepy is also not your groove.
Here's the tutorial:
What you need:
- the pattern - download here
- black felt
- two white buttons (the kind that has two holes)
- black sewing thread
- polyester filling
- dark green sewing or embroidery thread (I used metallic green thread)
- a piece of ribbon for the collar (orange ribbon would be perfect but since I didn't have any in my stash, I used red instead)
- a little bell (optional - I found a golden one in a DIY bracelet kit my daughter received last Christmas)
Instructions:
- download and print the pattern
- trace the pattern onto the felt and cut the pieces of the cat body
- sew both pieces of the body together, inserting the polyester filling as you go (this is especially relevant for the tail because it will much more difficult to fill it after it's sewn.
- sew the eyes in place with the green thread
- and finally tie the collar around the cat's neck with a simple knot or adding a bow. If you're using a little bell too, either insert it in the ribbon before tying or sew it on later
And you're done!
Happy Monday, and happy Halloween!
Your cat is so adorable that you made. Thanks for sharing at C&C with J&J.
