(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - bits and pieces from our summer vacation part 4

On one of the last days of our summer break I decided to show the my kids (and my husband too, since he'd never been there before) the village of Monsaraz.

Monsaraz, Portugal

Monsaraz is one of my favorite places in the Portuguese region of Alentejo. It's lays at the top of a very steep hill and is totally contained inside the old castle walls, so you are truly walking through a medieval village that remained virtually unchanged for something like 800 years.

From the top, you also have amazing views all around (which I'm sure were very useful when the castle was used for military purposes), including the artificial lake of the Alqueva dam and over the border into Spain (which is only a few kilometers away).
