My son loves to create countdown calendars to mark the days left until an important event. We usually do this with his birthday and, since last year, we started doing it for Christmas as well.
Even though we have Advent Calendars for each of the kids, my son really likes to rip a page everyday and know exactly how many days he still has to wait.

Last year I was totally pressed for time, so I made a very simple calendar (you can find it here). This year I started early (he's been asking for a couple of weeks now) and created a bit more sophisticated countdown calendar, with a different image every day.
Basically, there is one sheet per day, which tells you exactly how many days are left before December 25th. Each day you take out the top sheet of paper and the number decreases.
The calendar is planned to start on November 30th and to end right on Christmas day:
If you want to make one too, just download the pdf file, print the pages and cut them to shape. Then you can either staple them together or punch a hole where indicated and tie them with thread or a piece of ribbon and hang the calendar somewhere visible (we usually hang these calendars either on the kitchen walls or on my son's bedroom).
Enjoy your weekend,

Nice idea! I can totally see how the ripping-off-the-pages part would be fun for kids and saves the Advent Calendar for pure admiration! :) Also easy planning tool that you can fill in as you go along. Happy holidays to you!
