I started by crocheting 33 flowers in shades of two shades of pink, yellow and green, alternating the order of the colors as I went along.

Once I had all flowers crocheted, I added the white edging (also on the original pattern) and decided on placement.
Initially I thought about using a soft brown color for the edges, but since the I was making the tabletop for my daughter's white dresser, I ended up using white. That way the flowers kind of stand out from the background.
Joining all the flowers was a bit of a challenge. I tested several alternatives and ended up joining them with a single crochet since it gives the flowers a sort of 3D-ish honeycomb effect I really like.
