Hello, and welcome! Today I'm sharing here a fun and quick way to make a rope basket.
I came up with it to use up this cord, leftover from the Crochet Hanging Planter Pocket I created for my Etsy shop. This is what I had to work with:
I folded the edge of the rope as shown below, and then I just started joining the cord with a zig-zag stitch:
This kind of projects is very easy to make - you just need a wide enough zig-zag stitch and a lot of sewing thread:
Once I was satisfied with the base of the basket (above), I started to pull a bit more on the cord, to create the sides of the basket. The more you pull, the higher the walls of your basket will rise.
In my case, I left some slack in the cord because I wanted a low rise basket to use at our kitchen or dining room table. Once I was finished with the cord, I used some leftover crochet yarn and added a blanket stitch all around the edge. This blanket stitch then served as a base to add a crochet border:
I loved making this basket, and now I want to create a few more, round and higher, to use as Christmas gifts.
