Hello, and welcome! After mentioning last week the trio of kitchen towels I've recently completed, and posting the first of the free patterns (find it here) today I'm sharing the second pattern, the one for the blue towel.
Just like the others this is also a very easy pattern, basically just made of double crochets.
I used 100% cotton yarn in white and blue (because both yarns were thin, I crocheted with the two strands simultaneously) and a 2.5 mm crochet hook.
Instructions (US crochet terms):
Note: I started with 51 chains to end up with 48 stitches. Adjust the number of chains to the width you want your towel to have (just make sure your number of stitches is a multiple of 3).
Row 1: Chain 51. Start on the 3rd chain from hook and add one double crochet over each of the remaining chains until the end (48 stitches in total).
Row 2: Turn your work around, chain 3 and add one double crochet over each stitch from previous row (48 stitches in total).
Row 3: Repeat row 2
Row 4: Chain 4, skip two stitches, add one double crochet in the following stitch. Go back and add one double crochet over the stitch immediately before (effectively crossing one double crochet over the other - this is the cross stitch double crochet). Chain 1, skip two stitches, one double crochet in the following stitch and one double crochet in the preceding stitch. Repeat until the end. Finish with a regular double crochet in the last stitch.
In case you need help with the cross stitch double crochet, you can find my video tutorial below. Just make sure that you add one chain in between the cross stitched double crochets for this pattern.
Rows 5-7: Repeat row 2 (just make sure you always keep the original 48 stitches in every row).
Row 8: Repeat row 4.
Alternate three rows of regular double crochets with a row of cross stitch double crochet, until you reach the desired length for your kitchen towel.
This is what the pattern will look like:
