Hello, and welcome. If you've been visiting a while, you already know I love to make bags, so today I'm showing you my latest project - the tutu bag:
I made this bag as a gift for a little girl turning eight next week. Because I was a bit pressed for time, I didn't take enough pictures to create a complete tutorial, but the bag is sewn and assembled in exactly the same way as the 20-minutes lined tote bag I posted here a while ago.
I made this bag as a gift for a little girl turning eight next week. Because I was a bit pressed for time, I didn't take enough pictures to create a complete tutorial, but the bag is sewn and assembled in exactly the same way as the 20-minutes lined tote bag I posted here a while ago.
The difference is that before sewing all the bag pieces together I embellished the exterior of the bag to resemble a tutu.
I cut a piece of tulle a bit longer than the bag and wide enough to create a ruffled look, and attached it on the upper half of the bag (but not at the very edge):
After sewing the tulle on, I covered the seam with a matching ribbon (I debated sewing but then decided gluing the ribbon on was easier). To finish, I added a bow and a sparkling button.
And finally I assembled the bag:
Here's the end result, front and back:
I kind of made it up as I went along, but I had a lot of fun with this bag and I'll be making more in the future for sure, as I think this is such a cute gift for girls.
And while you're visiting, you can also have a look at some of the other bag tutorials I've posted in the past:
Happy Monday!
Beautiful.
