Hello, and welcome! Today I'm sharing here a great spring project, just perfect to create small gifts or party favors, and also great to use up yarn leftovers:
This is what I started with: leftover yarn in light green, orange, pink and lilac, and a 3 mm crochet hook. The only thing you need in addition to this are key rings (not pictured below).
Stitches used (Us crochet terms):
- single crochet
- double crochet
- treble crochet
- chain
- slip stitch
Step 1: create the center of the flower
Use the green yarn (or whatever color you want the center of your flowers to be). On a magic ring, chain two and then add 14 single crochets, slip stitch to the initial chain, pull to close the gap at the center, cut the yarn and fasten off. (15 stitches in total).Step 2: make the petals
Change the yarn. Start on any place around the circle. Chain four and add one treble crochet on the next stitch (without letting go of the final loop). You now will have two loops on your hook:
Add one more treble crochet on the next stitch, again holding the last loop. You will now have three loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull the hook through all the loops:
Chain four and slip stitch onto the next stitch. Your first petal is finished.
Repeat the same process as above (chain four, two treble crochets on the next stitches without passing the last loop, yarn over, pass all the loops on your hook, chain four and slip stitch to the following stitch) until you have five petals. Cut the yarn and weave in the ends:
Step 3: create the key ring loop
Return to the green yarn. Slip stitch the yarn to one of the original stitches of the the center or the flower, ideally in a way that looks like it's coming from in between two petals, and chain 25. Slip stitch back where you started. Don't cut the yarn.
Step 4: add the petal
Turn the petal around and add the same combination of stitches over the other side of the chains. End with a slip stitch at the top. Cut the yarn, fasten off and weave in ends.
Your crochet flower is finished:
Now attached the key ring:
If you prefer, you can also make a smaller key ring loop. Here's the comparison between a 25-chains loop (as included in the pattern above) and just a 15-chains loop.
Now make as many as you want, in all colors of the rainbow:
Have fun, and happy Wednesday,
