The holidays season is a wonderful time for connection, celebration, and, for many people, travel as well. Up until recently, I wasn't a fan of travelling over the holidays, except for mandatory family visits. I'll always dislike holiday crowds, but a quiet escape for a few days? Now that the kids are older, I'm starting to see some real benefits (less stress, less work, a break from routine...).
In any case, whether you're jetting off to a bustling city or a serene getaway, a little planning can go a long way in ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience, so here are a few tips to help you with your holidays travels.
Embrace the Journey
Treat each journey, short or longer, as an adventure in itself. Take time to appreciate the anticipation, the new sights, and (especially!) the change of pace. Decide if you want to break from tradition and do something completely new, or if you still want to keep some of your traditions - and plan accordingly. But no matter what you choose, this should be a time to relax and enjoy.
Stay Organized and Informed
Keeping track of your travel documents is key for any type of travel, but even more during the holidays, since a lot of services can be closed or just too busy with other, less careful travelers. It's also wise to stay updated on any travel restrictions or requirements, to make sure you have health or other insurances in place for any contingency, and to keep track of the weather.
Pack Smart
Consider the duration of your trip and the activities you have planned. Don't forget essentials like identification, comfortable clothing, and any personal items you can't travel without. Again, check the weather at your destination, to make sure you pack the correct clothes and footwear.
Adjust your gift giving to small things you can take with you or just agree to exchange gifts with friends and family after you return.
Explore and Enjoy
Once you arrive at your destination, whether you decided to immerse yourself in the local culture or to still uphold some of your own holidays traditions, the main goal should be to create wonderful and lasting memories. If you're stressing about it, you're doing it wrong.
Whether it's revisiting a favorite spot or discovering something new, holiday travel offers a unique opportunity to broaden your horizons - and it should be a great way to relax and take a break from the usual holiday madness.
Happy travels!

Travel insurance is obligatory, for me. As well as European health insurance card, besides all other documents.
ReplyDeletePlanning the trip, making accomodation and excursion bookings are exciting part, too.
I love travelling via airplane, so different lugagge rules between different air companies give me headache 🙂.
The travel cosmetic kit is very useful.
Have a nice time on your travel and lots of photos
