Hello, and welcome! Today I'm sharing here the boxy school bag I made for my daughter at the beginning of September, right before the start of the new school year.
Yes, it took me a while to share it and no, unfortunately there will not be a tutorial for this bag. I constructed it from an idea in my head, not any specific pattern and, in a way, it was more of a learning experience for me than anything else. It was a project of "firsts".
It was my first time sewing the handles this way, tucked in between the sides and the bottom of the bag:
It was my first time sewing a zippered hidden pocket and a recessed zippered closure:
In order to venture myself into both of these features I had to previously watch a couple of tutorials on YouTube, the best of which was this one here, from Sew Many Creations.
Other (easier for me) features included a padded inside pocket for the tablet...
...and an attached key ring to secure home and school locker keys inside the bag:
The bag is also lined with a water-proof batting to make sure in can be used on rainy days without notebooks and school books drowning inside.
And the best thing? The only items I actually had to purchase to make the bag were the handles and the zipper, everything else came from my stash.
