Hello, and welcome! I created this pattern to use up bits of crochet yarn leftover from another project (which I still haven't posted about here yet but it's coming soon) and decided to call it Night Sky for the color combination of dark blue and golden brown.
Overall it's very easy to make and uses only basic stitches. Scroll down for the pattern.
Yarn and hook: mercerized cotton yarn in dark blue and yellow or golden brown and a 2.5 mm crochet hook.
Stitches: chain and half double crochet, single crochet, slip stitch (US terms).
Instructions:
Row 1: Start with the dark blue yard. Chain 54 (or a multiple of 3 + 3 additional chains). Add one half double crochet over each chain, starting on the second chain from hook until the end of the row (52 stitches in total).
Row 2: turn around, chain 2 (counts as a stitch), add one half double crochet over each stitch from the previous row.
Rows 3: turn around, chain 4, skip two stitches and add one double crochet over the following stitch from previous row, *chain 2, skip two stitches and add one double crochet over the following stitch from previous row*. Repeat the pattern between * until the end of the row. You should have 17 chain spaces (or small open squares).
Row 4: turn around, chain 2 (counts as a stitch), add one half double crochet over each stitch from the previous row, including the chains (52 stitches).
Row 5: same as row 2.
Rows 6 - to the end: alternate rows 3, 4 and 5 until you reach the desired length (I made 31 rows in total and switched to the golden brown yarn for the last 5 rows. Adjust the number of rows made with each color according to your preference and the final size of your kitchen cloth (if you added more or less than 31 rows).
The hanging loop: to add the loop don't cut the yarn once you've finished crocheting your kitchen cloth. Instead, chain 10 and slip stitch the last chain to the first one. Then add 16 single crochets over the loop formed by the chains. Slip stitch again to the base of the loop, cut the yarn and weave in ends.
Overall this is a very quick project and since you can really make it in any color you want, it's also a great yarn stash buster.
Have fun, and happy Tuesday!
