DIY scrappy envelope pouch

Hello, and welcome! Remember the DIY Reversible Quilted Placemats Tutorial I posted here last week? Well, after completing my placemats I was left with a series of small scraps, some of them just thin strips of fabric leftover from when I adjusted the placemat pieces to the size I needed.

I could have just tossed away those fabric scraps, but where's the fun in that?

This is what I started with:

To make sewing easier, I cut a long rectangle out of batting:

And then proceeded to sew each strip of fabric directly onto the batting:

To add the lining, I placed the sewn piece over one of the larges bits of fabric left, right sides together, and sewed down three of the sides (leaving one of the smaller sides open):

I cut the excess fabric and turned it inside out through the opening:

Folded the edges of the open side inwards and top stitched:

Then I folded the piece in order to create the envelope shape, added a small loop made of a little piece of fabric and top stitched all around:

Once that was done, I just added plastic snaps in place to close the pouch, a key ring and a faux leather tassel in a matching color:

Have fun, and happy Wednesday!
