For a long time I've been wanting to enter the word of cake decor. I'll never be the Cake Boss, but spending too much money buying fancy cakes was beginning to irk me. If you've been visiting for a while, you already know that I always prefer to do things myself.
This summer, when the birthday season began in our house, I took a deep breath and decided to run the risk of serving guests a mess of a cake. Luckily, while there were a few hiccups in the process, I (and the cakes) made it almost unscathed.
Now, these are not my original designs. I let my kids search Pinterest for cute cakes that mom could actually make - nothing too fancy or too complicated - and I mostly tried to replicate what they asked me to in terms of colors and shapes.
I'm still at the beginner stages, but I feel a lot more confident that I can actually make this homemade cake thing work.
Happy Wednesday!
I've been decorating cakes for a very long time and I know I wouldn't have attempted cakes like this when I started out. Brava, you did an amazing job. Thanks for sharing with us at Celebrate Your Story and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you, for hosting and for stopping by. To be honest, I thought these would be harder than they really were, mostly because I used cookie cutters for the shapes, so I could make them quickly.
DeleteOh these are amazing!! I did my fair share of creating and decorating my kids' birthday cakes many years ago, but they were nothing as professional-looking as yours!! I'm so impressed. What did you use for the icing shapes??
ReplyDeleteThank you! I used cookie cutters for most of it.
DeleteWOW! These are AWESOME!! I have been wanting to try my hand at cake decorating... I just can't seem to find the time... ugh. Still - these cakes came out soooo nice! Kudos.

I hear you on the time issue. I have the same problem, but then realized I was paying so much for someone else to make the cakes that...well, I found the time. I baked the cakes and prepared the filling on the day before the party, and then got up real early the next day to assemble and decorate the cakes...
DeleteI love it! Beautiful. I have never made one myself but my sister is really into cake decorating. I have been wanting to try it too!! The kids would die if I did that for them:) Saw your post at the bloggers pit stop!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by. My advice is to keep things as simple as possible. There were some cakes my kids saw on Pinterest that I had to say no to. Maybe I could even make them, but it would take me forever and it just wasn't realistic. So I limited myself to what I could do with cookie cutters and my limited shape sculpting expertise.
