Spring-perfect rainbow hair clips

(and a how-to-make-the-perfect-bow tutorial)

Hello, and welcome. Today I'm going to show you the rainbow hair clips I made for my daughter, and also how you can easily create perfectly shaped bows.

My daughter loves anything and everything with rainbows. Most of her drawings (and she draws a lot) include at least one rainbow. So when I found a rainbow ribbon at the craft store, I just knew I had buy it.

To make the bows you need to cut your ribbon as shown below (for each bow). The largest piece of ribbon will be the body of the bow, the middle one will become the hanging ends and the smallest piece will go around the body of the bow.

First, fold the edges of the largest piece of ribbon towards the middle and add a few stitches to hold it in place - no need for perfection here, as these stitches will be hidden.

Next, fold the second largest piece of ribbon as shown below:

And sew it to the back of the bow piece:

Roll the excess thread tightly around the center of the bow and secure it in place:

And finally use the smallest piece of ribbon to cover the thread and the stitches (as my ribbon was large, I folded it in half for this step). Sew the edges on the back of the bow.

Clip the tips of the bow ribbons, to give it a more professional look, and sew or glue the bow to a hair clip (I did both):

If you're making a pair, make sure you glue the bows over the hair clips in opposite directions, so that you have one bow for the left side of the head and another for the right - otherwise one of the bows will be upside down when used.

And... they're done. Here's our pair of rainbow hair clips, perfect for this season!
