DIY Play Food: Lettuce Leaves

Hello and welcome to another installment of the DIY play food series. Following up on the felt play hamburgers, and the cheese slices, today I'm showing you how to make lettuce leaves for your kids to play with (and maybe, just maybe, you'll be able to convince them to eat the real ones - or so I keep telling myself).

Here's the tutorial:

What you need:
  • the pattern - download here
  • light green felt (as close to real lettuce color as you can get)
  • dark green sewing or embroidery thread

Instructions:
  • download and print the pattern. The pattern comes with two alternatives for the leaves, so choose your favorite or make them both
  • trace the pattern onto the felt and cut the pieces (use a pencil, chalk or disappearing ink to avoid staining the felt). If you have felt scraps, use them - that's what I did in this case:

  • with the darker thread, add stitches over the leaves as indicated in the pattern. You can do this using your sewing machine as I did or you can hand sew the lines. Bottom line, if sewing is not your thing, use a marker and just trace the lines onto the felt.

Make as many as you want and pair them with any other play food of your choice.

  5. These are so cute! I keep thinking I should make some for the playhouse under the stairs. As of now I have found fake food. The grands seem to love it too. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
