Some girls just love glitter, and my daughter is one of them. So, when I made the bunny garland for my son's birthday back in July, my daughter requested one for her seventh birthday too. The only condition? Glitter, and lots of it. And so the glitter cupcakes banner came to be...
Its a cute decor for a girly birthday party, and it's also very easy to make.
Here's a small tutorial:
Materials needed:
- the banner shape (download my pattern here), adjust for size if needed
- glittery EVA foam in different colors
- a cupcake shape - I used my Sizzix cupcake die, but you can easily browse the Internet and print a cupcake shape you like
- glue
- a piece of ribbon long enough to glue all the banner shapes you decide to make, with a little extra on each side for hanging
Instructions:
First, print and cut the banner pattern. Then trace it onto the back of the EVA foam. It's better to use a pen for this, as a pencil isn't likely to work well.
Decide how long you want your banner to be and cut as many pieces as you need. I used eight for my banner.
Then move ahead and cut the cupcakes shapes. Like I said above, I used my Sizzix for this, although I simplified the pattern of the original die cut, and I didn't need all the shapes it came with. I also replaced the candle that was supposed to be on top by a red circle - the cherry on top of the cake...
Using the Sizzix saved me a lot of work, but you can do it by hand too with any shape you want (and no, this is not a sponsored post, I really do love my Big Shot).
One thing: be prepared for a mess. This is how the floor of my crafty room looked at one point:
Place the cupcakes onto the banner shapes:
And then glue all the pieces. Some craft stores sell self adhesive EVA. If you can find it, it also saves you the trouble of having to add glue to all individual pieces. I used what I had at home, so it took me a while to get it done. Here it is, all glued:
The last step is to add the ribbon. For this you have two choices: you can either punch two holes at the top of each banner piece and run the ribbon through; or you can just glue the ribbon onto the back of the pieces. I decided to glue the ribbon:
And now you can hang your glitter cupcakes banner wherever you want!
Overall, it was a very fun project (even if I ended up with glitter all over the floor), and my kids enjoyed helping too.
Happy Monday,
They look cute indeed and easy to make, I suppose..
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, they are very easy to make, it's mostly just cutting the shapes and gluing them together!
DeleteOh these are adorable and my granddaughter would love making this. Thanks for sharing at #BloggersPitStop.
