Birds on a Wire Nursery Decor

..or maybe I should say "birds on a ribbon"?

Anyway, today I wanted to share with you what I created as nursery decor for a cousin baby girl.

It's a very simple set of pink and white felt birds, sewn onto a ribbon and tied to a wood ring for hanging. All in all, it is a cute, inexpensive and quick way to decorate a baby's room, and it can be made in any color to match the rest of the decor.

I'm also sharing below a brief tutorial in case anyone wants to make something similar.

Supplies:
  • two pieces of contrasting felt in the colors you prefer
  • one wood ring
  • matching ribbon
  • cotton yarn in the same colors as the felt (leftover crochet yarn works great)
  • small buttons (not pictured below) for the birds' eyes - two buttons for each bird
  • the bird pattern - download here
  • polyester filling

Assembly:

Decide how many birds you want to have in your "wire" and cut the pattern pieces accordingly.

Sew on the wings and the buttons.

Cut a piece of ribbon long enough to tie to the wood ring and still have room to sew all the birds on. I forgot to take a picture of this part, but you can see below how I added a bow on top of the knot securing the ribbon to the ring. It woks as embellishment and helps to hide the knot.

Then all you need to do is, for each bird. sew the two sides together with the ribbon in between. Fill with the polyester filling before closing.

Trim any excess ribbon and you're done! One cure baby gift in no time!

If you don't like to have the birds stacked vertically, you can use the pattern to create a bird garland instead!

Enjoy this tutorial, and happy Tuesday!

    1. Thank you Alicia! My daughter slept in our room until she was almost four. She was a poor sleeper and I just could find the courage to get up and cross the hallway all the way to her room half a dozen times a night...
