DIY baby bib - with free pattern & tutorial!

This Easter I unexpectedly needed find presents for three small children For the two oldest (5 and 2) it was fairly easy, but by the time I wanted to get something for the baby (a 7 month old girl) the shops were closing (late Saturday) and so I decided to make her a bib myself.

Although there are hundreds of bib patterns online, using one would mean starting up my computer and getting the printer out of the closet and I was not up to it. So I just traced one of my daughter's bibs and came up with this:

The back is a soft terrycloth I had in my stash and that matches the shade of the fabric.

To make it prettier I added several yo-yos made with the same fabric.

If you want to make one, download the pattern below. Cut front and back (you can use the same fabric, terrycloth or even oilcloth if you want your bibs to be impermeable).

Seam allowances are included (at least in my version they are) but if you want the bib bigger you can always consider the pattern as the sewing line and add seam allowances.

To keep things simple I added a snap where indicated. All you need to do is sew front and back right sides together leaving a small opening at the bottom.

Turn inside out through the opening and top stitch all around. Add the snap (or sew on some velcro) and embellish as you want.

Enjoy,

  1. Thank you. I was looking for a small bib that employed snaps. I look forward to making some bibs now.

  2. Very cute. I needed to make an inexpensive gift & the yo-yos sold me. What is the best way to attach them? (I know how to make them.)

    1. Hi, I just sew them on. Since the bib is to be washed multiple times, it's the best way to ensure they stay in place.
