Sunny side up crochet face scrubbies - with pattern

Hello, and welcome! Yesterday I mentioned on another post that I had made a new crochet face scrubbies set, and today I'm sharing the pattern here too.

I have named them sunny-side-up face scrubbies because they remind me of the sun images my daughter often includes in her drawings. And also because the name makes me smile and we all need more reasons to smile right now.

Last year I shared here my first crochet scrubbies pattern (you can find it here).

These sunny side up scrubbies start in a very similar way, but they have three double crochet rows instead of two (because they are made with a thinner yarn) and then they have an added border.

Here's the tutorial:

1st row: chain two over a magic ring. Then add 11 double crochets (to get 12 stitches in total). Join with a slip stitch. Pull the loose end of the yarn to close the magic ring.

2nd row: chain two, and then add two double crochets over each stitch from the first row. Slip stitch to join.

3rd row: chain two, add one double crochet in the next stitch, two double crochets in the following one. Repeat this pattern (two double crochets in each of two stitches of the previous row and then two double crochets in the same stitch) until the end. Slip stitch to join.

Border: chain one, add one double crochet in the next stitch and in the following stitch do this: one slip stitch, chain three, slip stitch again (all over the same stitch from the previous row). Repeat this pattern (two single crochets in each of two stitches of the previous row and then slip-stitch-chain-three-slip-stitch in the next stitch from the previous row) until the end. Slip stitch when you finish the row and weave in the end.

Once you get used to the pattern, it will take you just a couple of minutes to get one scrubbie done.

I'm guessing these would look amazing in yellow or orange - or some combination of the two. Then they would truly look like small suns. At this point in time, however, I have none of those colors in my yarn stash, and I'm not going out to shop for them either, so blue will have to do for now.

I'm not great at writing patterns and I forgot to take pictures of the process too. So if you want to make these scrubbies and get stuck somewhere along my instructions, give me a shout and I'll try to help you to the best of my abilities.
