Upcycled Summer Skirt

If you've been visiting a while, you already know I love to upcycle clothes, especially for my kids. Children grow too quickly and upcycling is a great way to make their clothes last a bit longer.

Upcycled Summer Skirt

So this past weekend I managed to sew a new summer skirt for my daughter using one of my mother's old dresses.

From the looks of it, it was some sort of halter dress that my mother started to modify and then never finished. It lived in her closet for a long time and finally she passed it on to me. Restyling the dress to fit would be too much trouble - and besides, I'm not a huge fan of dresses anyway.

So I took the easier route and cut it up to make a skirt. And when I say the easier route, I mean exactly that - I kept all the side seams and just cut the body of the dress off. I had to adjust the bottom edge a bit too, because it was to falling straight, but after that I just needed to hem it and add an elastic case on the top side.

Here it is, still in the making (and desperately needing to be ironed):

The the lacy ribbon at the bottom was an afterthought but my daughter liked it and in the end, it wasn't a that much of added trouble.

So here it its: one cute summer skirt that took me less than half a Saturday morning to make. Quick, inexpensive and a great addition to my daughter's summer wardrobe. Win-win all the way.
