DIY Christmas gift bag from upcycled felt

Hello, and welcome to a new week! It's almost December so I've been woking on...yes, Christmas crafts. And because this year I will be ordering almost everything online or making it myself, I'm going to need creative ways to wrap gifts using materials I already have at home.

So today I'm showing off the gift bag I made upcycling an old felt puzzle mat. Check it out below:

This was the original felt piece:

I bought it years ago as a puzzle mat, the kind you can roll up when you want to put the puzzles away and all the pieces stay in place (though, really, that last part never did really work that well with us). Anyway, the original mat closed with a pair of white rubber elastics which, after all this time, broke and stained part of the felt.

So I cut off the parts which were stained and was still left with a good chunk of dark green felt. I folded it in half and added the side seams to create a bag (with a folded ribbon tucked into one of the seams). You can check my tutorial for these reusable gift bags for detailed instructions.

And then I used my Sizzix to cut pine tree and star shapes out of glittery Eva foam.

The Eva foam is simply glued over the felt.

And that was it. In almost no time I had one gift bag ready to be used for Christmas gifts. Eco-friendly, inexpensive - and I didn't have to go out to buy it.

More homemade Christmas ideas to come in the next days/weeks. Stay tuned!

Happy Monday and happy crafting!
