5 Foods that Whiten Teeth

Ok, so this is not one of my usual crafts posts but...at this point in time when most of us want to avoid necessary visits to the dentist (I know I do), I found this information from Auraglow very interesting and had to share it here.

5 Foods that Whiten Teeth

We all know that certain foods and drinks can stain your teeth (hello, red wine!); however, there are also foods that can whiten teeth

Foods like apples and carrots contain natural properties that can boost oral health and prevent unwanted stains. Check out the list below and start adding these foods to your diet.

Pineapples

Pineapples are a great source of vitamin C and bromelain. Vitamin C helps strengthens gums while bromelain has natural cleansing properties. Add pineapple to your next meal to help whiten teeth and break up plaque.

Apple

Apples contain abrasive properties that help scrub your teeth. So, eating an apple is similar to brushing your teeth! They also contain malic acid, an ingredient present in toothpaste.

Carrots

Carrots, similar to apples, have abrasive properties. So chewing on carrots can help scrub your teeth! They are also packed with keratin and vitamin A. These are two nutrients that keep your gums healthy and form strong tooth enamel.

Celery

The act of chewing on celery can help stimulate saliva production and massage your gums. This helps clean food particles and bacteria from your teeth. Celery is also packed with vitamins that can strengthen tooth enamel. If you don’t like celery, blend it into a smoothie or add peanut butter to it.

Cheese

Who doesn’t love cheese? Now you have even more reasons to eat it! Cheese is packed with so many good nutrients — like calcium, phosphate, casein, and whey — that keep not only your bones strong but also your teeth! They can also help rebuild enamel and protect your teeth from tooth decay.

So if you aren’t quite ready to commit to a teeth whitening kit, consider modifying your diet to include the foods listed above! All it takes is adding an apple a day or making simple substitutions like swapping chips for carrots. If you’re looking for more ways to add these smile-brightening foods into your diet, check out the infographic below that includes what to look for, what to avoid, and simple recipes you can start adding to your daily schedule.
