And...this week's Thursday Throwdown theme is in person vs. online sales.
I'm not much of on an in-person-sales, for several reasons.
Some of them are personal - I'm not a naturally social person, I dislike crowds and I have an inability to be pushy about my items. See them and love them? Take them if you want. Otherwise, I'm not going to push a sale.
Other reasons are more of a practical nature. I work full time out of the house five days a week. Right now, due to the extraordinary circumstances we are all living in, I'm working from home, but even so I'm still following the same schedule. On the weekends I take time to be with my family, rest and do some house work. This means that craft fairs are out of the question. I just don't have the energy for them. Moreover, in Portugal I'm not sure you sell that much in fairs to justify the entry fees. Handmade still has a long way to go around here before it's generally preferred to store bought.
So, all in all, I much prefer to sell online, even with the hassle of having to make sure items are securely packaged and needing to go to the post office every time I have a sale.
This being said, I have made a few in person sale. Mostly to friends - or friends of friends - who saw things I made for myself (I do make a lot of gifts and stuff for us besides what's in the shop) and asked me to make something for them (and paid for it too). Not huge revenues, and not an avenue I pursue intentionally, but if you ask me, I make it.
Sadly, I have had to put my shop on vacation for the time being, and I'm missing it everyday. But hopefully things will improve soon.
