St. Patrick's Day scented ornament

I made this for the only friend I have with Irish ancestors. Even though in Portugal St. Patrick's Day always falls a bit flat, she always like to celebrate in style.
This year I wanted to make her something different for St. Patrick's and I thought - why not an ornament? And then, while I was at it, I decided to add a scented sachet instead of just polyester filling, and so I turned it into a scented ornament.

Which kind of makes sense, because now she can hang it in her closet all year long instead of using and discarding it on just one day.

Scroll down to find out how I made it.

I started with two felt hearts, one clover charm (that I've had for years and never used before), a piece of green elastic (ribbon would have worked fine too, but I didn't have a single piece of plain green ribbon in my stash...) and a small additional square of felt. I intended this square to be in a lighter shade of green than the hearts, but in the end it turned out just too similar.

I started by sewing the square and the charm in place, and then joined the two hearts.

I tucked the edges of the elastic in between the two hearts and continued sewing all around.

I left a small opening to insert the polyester filling and the small scented sachet and once that was done, finished sewing the ornament.

It was a very quick project and even though that square did not have the effect I had anticipated, I'm quite happy with the result.

I gave it to my friend last Friday and she loved it. She said that if it wasn't for the scent, she could ever wear it on the 17th. So...I told her to keep it as it was and promised I would make her some St. Patrick's heart brooches too. But that's a story for another day...

    1. Ah, hopefully it's a good smell...I never thought about that when I wrote the title, but you're right, it sounds a bit odd...
